Throughout our lifetime, we’ve all had questions about Christmas. When we’re young the questions are about Santa Claus and reindeer logistics. As we grow older the questions are about the logistics of the baby Jesus and the three wise men and topics like the virgin Mary, the Christmas star, and even apparent Bible inconsistencies.
All of these questions if not seriously addressed, start to plant seeds of disbelief. At best, it causes us to pay lip service to the whole Christmas season and see it as a time of family gatherings, good food, and good tidings of good feelings.
At worst, it begins the collapse of our faith with a drift away from apparent religious fairy tales that stretch intellectual credibility.
Let’s not go there. Us or friends or family members.
Over the past 10 years I’ve written and posted many Biblical Viewpoints on common Christmas seasonal questions that I’ve always wondered about myself. As I’ve matured and studied over my lifetime, I’ve discovered answers that actually helped solidify my faith and understanding of the Bible, Jesus, and God’s ways, means, and purpose.
Here are just a few good samples.

#1 How Do We Deal With the Jesus Thing?
I can imagine someone thinking that “Christmas would be better if we didn’t have to deal with the Jesus thing.” It’s not a stretch to think that the ‘Jesus thing’ is not top of mind for many of the population during this holiday season. Which begs the question, Why not? Certainly the most strident atheist or even an uninformed secularist would acknowledge the following about Jesus.
How do you deal with the inescapable problem of Jesus?

#2 Do You Even Believe It?
The Bible is full of supernatural phenomena and historical reality. One’s responsibility is to confront it, not retreat or resist it with blinders or denial. Unfortunately, many don’t go far beyond the happy superficial aspects of the holiday. Yes, the Christmas story must be intellectually reconciled. No one should escape the study and evaluation of history, documented evidence, and spiritual faith.
If we celebrate Christmas, then how is it that we really don’t believe it all?

#3 What Did Mary Really Know?
Have you ever considered the situation of Mary, the young mother of Jesus? It was bad enough that Mary had to deal with the shame of being pregnant in a small town before her wedding to Joseph. Imagine the fear, the wonder, the uncertainty, the hopeful expectation. Could she have really fathomed what was about to happen to her and her child?
#4 What About the Christmas Star?
We put star ornaments on our Christmas trees and see countless representations of this iconic symbol throughout the Christmas season. We’ve heard many theories about it and might admit a tinge of excitement when scientists confer on theories of aligning planets or astronomical occurrences that perhaps could be tied to the timeline of the historic event of Jesus’ birth. What’s the truth? Was this iconic symbol of the birth of Christ really a new star, a comet, aligned planets, a nova or supernova?
What’s the truth about the Christmas star? Have you considered perhaps another option?
May your curiosity and exploration of these questions grow your faith and make this season even more meaningful to you and yours.
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Might God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. – Isaiah 9:6-7
