#1 The Yellow Kite
In this season of hope, a touching story of answered prayer when hope runs out.
A young child’s small request causes a mother to not give up on life.
I read this short story every year at Christmas time to remind myself that God cares about the details in life, no matter our circumstances.

#2 A Christmas Miracle
A touching story of a prolific American author’s own most wondrous Christmas. Taylor Caldwell wrote many novels throughout her career. This one short Christmas story has always touched me greatly for its elements of financial fear, selflessness, a child’s joy and innocence, gift-giving, love, and charity.
She received a gift as a result of her own selfless giving. Christmas celebrates the ultimate gift-giving.

#3 The Tale of 3 Trees
A morality tale that fits the season and provides a thoughtful lesson for those of us who have big dreams, great disappointments, or long periods of waiting and longing.
My wife had the chance to read a story of her choosing as a guest reader in one of our grandchildren’s Christian preschool classes.
What she read to them was The Tale of Three Trees, a traditional folktale that for generations has been handed down from parents to children and retold in churches at Christmas and Easter.
Even when things are not going our way, know that God will never forsake us. In the long run, God’s will is the better way.
#4 Handel’s Musical Masterpiece
You may attend a church service this Christmas week that has a choir performing Handel’s Messiah, a musical masterpiece. You may know it as simply the Hallelujah Chorus with its dramatic, stirring, and very catchy tune.
It’s a song I heard often when young, but didn’t fully appreciate musically until later in life. I came to have awesome reverence for it over time as I learned the full back-story of its composition.
It’s actually one of the world’s most beautiful musical scores ever written. It changed a man’s life and its creation reveals a glimpse of the glory behind the creative aspect of God.
Do you know the full story of its composition?
