The 2024 US election is now over and left for history to analyze. Regardless of whether your side won or lost, all might fairly agree on 4 significant truths that emerged out of this election cycle. ◊
It occurred to me this week that while the American nation is divided – not too different from a division that led to the Civil War in 1860 – our democratic system of government with free elections did hold up after all. And now both sides, hopefully, can retreat, retool, reassess, rebuild and life will move on.
However, we should not forget 4 significant truths that have emerged:
- Don’t Trust the Media – One cannot, or at least should not, expect accurate information from standard network media news outlets and pollsters. The economic funding power and ideological pressure put on these once-perceived trustworthy corporations are immense and clearly leaning to one side politically. More people now understand that corporate and government powers really did work hard to shut down the voice of independent news sources.
- Most People are God-Respecting – Our nation is more God-fearing, or at least more God-respecting, than not. While this was not overtly on any ballot, my sense is that a majority of Americans voted with clarity on things that I would classify as God-respecting: social law and order, economic common sense, family-oriented freedom and value. We may not be a Christian nation, but we are, by popular majority, a God-fearing, God-respecting nation. Not a bad place to be.
- People Want Competence More than Politics – While I suspect this has always been true, it seems that with today’s proliferation of information flow, truth-tellers and competent performance are now more easily seen and readily vetted, and anything less is apt to be exposed. Political slogans, gaffes, lies, and empty promises are easily seen-through and now widely dispersed to a public that, even if they are only half-paying attention, makes an imprint that sways their opinions. And this shows up now at the voting booth, not in the polls.
- People Want Honesty, Not Dishonesty – It’s curious but it does seem as if a veil has come partially off the big elephant (or donkey) in the room. The advance voting volumes were significant this year. My sense is that people went to vote in person in advance to ensure their vote was counted accurately and fairly. The result was record numbers, and even a lop-sided final count the pollsters said would not happen. This bodes well for our future. I suspect that voting requiring ID will be one common-sense law put in place in the near future.
A Word on the Christian Vote
In the coming days it will be interesting to see the numbers associated with the Christian vote in this week’s US election. As noted here in previous posts, there are heated debates within the Christian community over political candidates and whether Christians should even participate in voting. Again, our best candidates and leaders need not be perfect or free of a sullied past, but they must be now good and fair and God-fearing.
I suspect the number of Christians voting this year increased. As we Christians actively live in this world and in our communities, states, and nation, we should actively impact this world, and our communities, states, and nation. We are called to reflect Christ in all we do and operate as witnesses to the hope that is within us. We are indeed ambassadors for this Jesus/Holy Spirit-led kingdom embedded in a lost world that needs saving grace.
And now, regardless whether your side won or lost, we should pray for our country and our leaders to be vessels for the will of God, and to be good and just and wise, and surround themselves with others that are good and just and wise, and all humbly submissive to the God of their Creation.
Are you now praying for your leaders?

You’ve been blinded by the Trump cult. How can you claim that the voters wanted Honesty? The majority voted for the world’s most egregious liar and the biggest conman. The party that backed him also propagated his lies and hate. The so called Christians that voted for this should examine their beliefs and hearts. You and they must be disregarding the Bible verses you listed in your previous writing. Prov 29:12 If a ruler listens to lies, all his officials become wicked.
I don’t know what has happened to you. Maybe you never were a Christian, or is it just in the past few years that you can’t discern between evil and good. You should really look at what Jesus and the Bible say, and determine whether you are following good or evil.

Sugar,
I appreciate your perspective. I maintain that we are all sinners who have been corrupted. Some are aware of their corruption and have repented. All of us are on a spectrum of rationalizing our corruption and dealing with it. Some confront God at some level, some do not. Some do this privately, some publicly. From a Biblical perspective, the evidence is in the fruit of one’s life. Wisdom is discerning real truth across all of these dynamics.
